Rotterdam Kinematic Ensemble@Dokhuis

The Rotterdam Kinematic Ensemble brings silent film to life with live, improvised soundtracks in a new monthly series at Dokhuis in Charlois. Known for their immersive performances where music and image meet in real time, the collective works with a flexible lineup of musicians, adapting each performance to the film on screen. The series features six evenings of historical and experimental cinema, each accompanied by an original live score performed by local artists. Rooted in the tradition of early cinema but reimagined through an experimental lens, every event offers a unique audiovisual experience. With no dialogue, the films transcend language barriers, inviting a broad and diverse audience. This evening the movie The man with the movie camera (1929) will be screened. Each evening is a one-time encounter between film, sound, and audience, unrepeatable, immediate, and collective.
